If you enjoy bringing your vehicle out into muddy conditions to romp in slick dirt after inclement weather has passed, you will want to be prepared to dislodge it from deep mud if it gets stuck. While mud bogging can be a lot of fun, it can also be harmful to your vehicle if you are not seasoned in getting it out of a dirty spot promptly. Here are some tips you can use to get your vehicle out of a muddy area with ease.
Carry The Right Materials
Place some thick pieces of cardboard, wood planks, or crushed gravel in your vehicle before you head out for some fun in the mud. Any one of these materials can be used to help your tires gain traction if your vehicle becomes stuck. Simply place one of the items in front and in back of your tires so you will have a dry surface for them to grip upon when trying to drive out of the muck.
Learn How To Rock
Rocking your vehicle when it seems trapped is one way to help it gain enough momentum to drive out of the mud. Place your vehicle in drive, push down on your gas pedal, and shift your body weight forward while doing so. Quickly switch to reverse and lean your body back against your seat at the same time. Continue switching from drive to reverse while moving your body in the appropriate direction. If you have others in the vehicle, have them do the same movements as you for maximum weight distribution. These movements may be enough to push your vehicle through a slick spot.
Know When To Call For Help
If you try shifting and using props without a positive outcome, call someone for help in getting your vehicle out from its predicament. A towing company can come with chains to pull your vehicle out of the muddy area with ease. This is the best way to ensure your vehicle is not damaged during the pulling process as they will professionally hook up the right type of equipment to do the job. You can try calling a friend to pull you out with a chain and another vehicle, but you put both vehicles at risk for damage if the chain is not placed in a sturdy area of your vehicle.
Make sure you have a cell phone with you when you decide to explore muddy trails in case you do run into trouble. It is also a good idea to stay in an area known to have cell phone service so you do not need to walk away from your vehicle to obtain help.
